Girls! Monster! Girls! Monster! Girls! There’s girls everywhere in the world of Japanese artist, Rockin’ Jelly Bean. Even when he makes public appearances, sporting Mexican wrestling mask, there’s always a girl or two at his side (JB girls!). Is he just a mysterious playboy with a growing gift of the brush and stylized love for the dimensions of the ladies? Kabar Burung terkadang bikin resah, ketidak jelasannya membuat orang selalu bertanya-tanya tentang apa yang sebenarnya terjadi. Mungkin hampir sama dengan “gosip”, percakapan orang banyak yang belum jelas kebenarannya dan darimana sumbernya. Namun sebagian orang menyukai hal-hal yang tidak pasti, dan banyak juga yang membencinya seperti gosip yang sering banyak menggunakan kata “katanya”.
Painting@Drawing presents a selection of drawing-based paintings as a way to see an “evolution of drawing” in contemporary art practice. Drawing is seen as an element of painting, but not just one element among others. It is specifically highlighted as the superior element of painting, the main part which determines the character of the painterly subject, or the character of the painter, the expression of thoughts and feelings of the artist: Drawing as the important element which embodies the “style”. The exhibition seeks to reveal insights about how the contemporary artists create new levels of complexity in the practice of drawing that expands and enriches the traditional drawing practice. It shows an increasing appreciation of drawing in contemporary art, as well as the ways in which drawing continues to evolve, constantly re-creating itself. Rochester Contemporary Art Center’s (RoCo) international small art phenomenon returns with thousands of original artworks, made and donated by celebrities, international & local artists, designers, college students, youths, and YOU. Each artwork must be 6×6 square inches (or mounted to a 6×6 board) and signed only on the back, to be exhibited anonymously. All entries will be accepted, exhibited and will be for sale to the public for $20 each (in the gallery and online for global purchasing) to benefit RoCo. Artist names will be revealed to the buyer upon purchase and all artworks remain on display through July 15th. Sold Out artists’ names will be revealed next to their work on July 6.
