It can be said that the four artists in this exhbition, Agus Suwage, Astari, Budi Kustarto and FX Harsono are the most intense contemporary Indonesian artists who continously dealing with self portraits. The works of these four are lucid with identity politics—as is common in the self-portraits artworks in contemporary art. The issues of ethnicity, gender, class, the ambigous cultural identity and self existence are prominent in their works. This tendency mostly seen as prioritizing a politically correct attitude. However, the works of these four artists are not only interesting in the way they deal with politic, but also in the way they deal with aesthetic, or, quoting Suzi Gablik, we can say that their works are done “without any sacrifice at the level of aesthetic quality.”
