While preparing the upcoming exhibition program (2010-2011), that will feature, among the others, Mondo Zanolini, Ugo Untoro, Budi Kustarto, Heri Dono, Kirsty Ludbrook, Maurizio Vetrugno, Matteo Basilé and Sara Nuytemans, as well as a number of collective shows, Biasa Artspace introduces Hyperlinks, an exhibition that showcases works from the gallery’s permanent collection. The expression hyperlink, or hypertext indicates, in digital vernacular language, textual instruments allowing to access multi-layered plans of information. Transposed to the art discourse, the artworks epitomize open projects, activated at the intersection of technological innovation and social relevance.
Hyperlinks stages a disruptive and hybrid experience of art practises ranging from graffitism, kynetic video, ready-made and design assemblages, strongly inspired to Indonesian forms, both traditional and contemporary. Sara Nuytemans, Arya Pandjalu, Angki Purbandono, Farhan Siki, Samuel Indratma, Zulkarnaini, Yoesoef Olla, Teguh Ostenrik, and Abdi Setiawan, all cohere into aesthetic codes and idioms that galvanise popular culture with the construction of a novel identity. The artists’s share, in fact, their efforts and personal research in unfolding the tensions and the logics of social development: a specific attitude to read political and cultural change as well as an inclination to express the diverse plans of existence by visually juxtaposing sacred and profane traditions…
