A Solo Exhibition by Eddi Prabandono
About 10 ton of clay were brought from Yogyakarta to SIGIarts Jakarta a couple of days ago. The tons of clay were wrapped in hundreds black plastic bag, 10 kilo each. The local materials of Godean village, Yogyakarta was made to build a giant sculpture within the exhibition space of SIGIarts, a sculpture of the head of Luz Miyagi Prabandono. The clay sculpture is 4 by 4 by 4 meter, the first site-specific project in SIGIarts.
For about two weeks, Eddi Prabandono, the sculptor and a couple of artisans put their effort in creating the head of Luz inside the gallery. The thrill is that the sculpture is made on the second floor, the only viewing room of the gallery, which is the built right on top of Pisa Café, an Italian restaurant, which is always busy everynight. The maximum capacity of the floor is 15 ton. That is why, the effort to build a site specific sculpture is absolutely a challenging effort for the owner of the gallery and the artist.
Beside this project, Eddi Prabandono also shows a painting and an aluminum sculpture with the same theme, the head of Luz, his only daughter. The three artworks forms a colorful perceptual experience to the artist and also to the audience. Three modes of representation with one model.
